How to use data to run a sub 3 hour marathon | 2 thing Tue
First principles thinking to run your best time, alternative facts, and working smarter not harder
What is up! Daren aka DLake Creates here. This is usually “Three Thing Thursday” aka TTT. It's a monthly-ish newsletter that had life happen to it and the end of the month is quickly approaching so it renamed itself "Two-Thing-Tuesday".
Each newsletter I send you a quick curated list of a few (two) interesting and cool things I’ve found or created to help you perform better in your endurance sports, health, life and career.
Last month I did say this would be the last edition with this type of format, and while that isn't exactly true it's also not a lie.
Let's get into it! (BTW - If you're feeling this or anything I've posted, feel free to forward this email or share this link with someone cool.)
How to use data to train and race faster with J. Mike Remy
J Mike Remyand I are brothers from another mother. The dude is my fitness best fwend. We talked about some cool stuff but a few things in particular were;
What about data analysis exactly is important
Why he thinks accuracy is more important than the consistency
He convinces me to use Running Power Meters moving forward!
What consistency means under the context of doing data analysis as a career (we talk about this a lot)
And a bunch more!

How I used a new way of thinking to run a sub-3-hour marathon
If you base your endurance sports and fitness goals on what other people around you are doing (anecdotal), you might be missing out on some AMAZING sh*t in life. The opposite of anecdotal thinking is first principles of thinking. It’s a different but powerful alternative. You can apply this to anything from health, to fitness and all other areas of your life.
I focus on my sub-3-hour marathon accomplishment and how I used data from previous training and races to back up my reasoning on why it was possible to run sub 3-hour marathon on very little specific training. It also wasn't easy and not a smart thing to do (I hurt myself for 12 weeks) but yeah, I did it. Would not recommend you do something that silly.

Bonus Quote (2.1)
"Proper training isn’t just about doing the work (working harder).
It's about doing the right work (working smarter)”
That’s it for TTT March 2021. Thanks for reading, listening and watching. Again, if you're liking this stuff please share a link with anyone you know.
If you have questions, comments, concerns, or hell - you want to be a guest on my podcast or have work featured - hit me up! Just reply to the email or email talk@dlakecreates.com
PS - Feel free to follow me on Instagram for real-world documentation on commitment around endurance sports, stoic lulz, etc. I try to focus on just my training but sometimes make inspirational and fun videos (like the above) mixed in with woke self-improvement life quotes.
