Get Ahead of the Game: Utilizing Past, Present and Future to Enhance Your Training
🏃🏽♂️Skim time (5k pace): 45 seconds |🚶🏽♀️Read time (long run pace): 4 mins
👋🏽 Hideo ho to all the new folks that signed up and the long-term ones for sticking around.
TLDR about what’s coming up;
Perform 1% better as you age (aka Future Things)
Things you may have missed (aka Past Things)
My training updates (aka Present Things)
Feeling this? Why not…
Thanks for reading this far into the DLake Creates Newsletter! If you haven’t already please subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.
Welcome to the new format. Not too much has changed except; WAY - MORE - VALUE! If I were a computer program (which technically my brain is), my main objective would be to give the running, health, and fitness world so much damn value that my heart explodes with joy and love.
This new format/framework is based on my fav theme - TIME! It’s the DNA of everything we do as runners - in our training, racing, work, and yes even life. This $h*t is a literal metaphor for life and I brings more analogous heat than the first battery-operated fingertip heart rate monitor.
Fit tech jokes aside - In this first (of two) monthly newsletters - I’m wrapping up random stuff I find on the internet in a quick/easy/fun way. Each section will have a few more links so feel free to ignore or explore whatever you fancy. Hopefully the more feedback you give me on what you like the better the links will be.
Then there will be what people in the Master of some community are doing. And then a training update on what I did last month.
The goal is to make this quicker/snappier/doper for you to read and easier and more fun for me to create. Win: Win.
The following newsletter in two ish weeks will be one thing wed that will go deep on… yes one topic/theme/idea/random musing or I’ll repost something that I think is novel and unique enough that you should know about.

💊 Supplements and New Year’s Resolutions (Past Things)
Seven proven supplements to help you crush your run recovery
Don’t sleep on supplements. They are legal and help you perform at your best!Why New Years resolutions usually suck for runners
And what to do about it
🏃♂️How my training is going (Present Things)
The last two months have shown me that I just don’t have as much time as I think I do. I’ve finally mapped out how much time I really have in a day and how long tasks really take. Spoiler - for me most tasks take 2-3 times longer than I plan.
With that in mind, I’m getting more okay with the idea of focus. I’ve been focusing on this 15:59 5k for literally five years now. And TBH after burning out last year trying to go too hard, I’m okay with never hitting it.
That doesn’t mean I won’t try, but I’ve got other priorities. So instead of “Rushing to increase my fitness” at the expense of my sanity and sacrificing my life/fitness/health/work balance - I’ll just go 80-90% most hard days.
Negative split races (run first part slow and second part faster) and generally just chill out. I’m sure I’ll be within a few percent of my best times or at worst, I’ll just enjoy the experience and still be fit and (way more) healthy.
I proved this theory to myself last year while doing my annual half marathon and I ended up running my best time and being the least prepared. Maybe this is the way to move forward.

🛠 Mastering some of your life
If you’re curious, you are probably a Master of Some. The goal in life is not to master all, not master none, but to try to be a MASTER OF SOME.
The goal here is to community shoutout people in my circle doing dope things.

“Funny you ask, I'm training for me, not for a race or an event, not to lose weight or anything like it, even though it's a benefit. LOL, I'm training because I love running, and I want to be able to keep running for a long time. I have been running since 2013. I ran in high school too, but it was a bad experience because my coach had no clue about form; that was a long time ago. I found coach Mike on Instagram; he has helped me more in a few months of reading his post than anybody. I'm a certified personal trainer, so I understand some basics about running, but I did not realize that I was overstriding and training hard on every run. Again lousy coach in high school :( With that said, thank you for everything you do, and have a blessed day.”

Attempt Badwater 267mi in 31 days VR cahllenge in Ja - Alistair Suliman-Burton @__owlistair__
“Just about to start listening to his new book whilst attempting the Badwater Ultra 267mi/430km in 31 days VR challenge in Jan. Don't know if I have time to run 8.6mi per day ha 😅 but I really wanna give it a try. Just do em all zone 2 super slow miles and enjoy the snow and gale force winds whilst listening to to Goggins mad as f*ck book 😁 winning at life.
Even if I don't do the 267 miles in 31 days I won't have failed, coz I'll have tried, and trying is winning, right ha?! I know what Goggins would say.”

Keeping it real as Ewa said;
“My Training - Not so good. But yesterday I came back to running after a month break with a strong resolution to keep at it!”
-Keep it moving Ewa!
