Thanks for reading Dimitris!! It really means a lot. Let me know if you'd like me to talk about something or stop talking about something. Open to any and all feedback!
I'd like a newsletter section where you discuss the practical considerations of using carbon plated shoes for long events. Who you've found benefit from them. What risks should be considered when choosing to race in them for distances longer than a 1/2 marathon? Does one need specific preparation for these style of shoes?
CHRIS! Thanks for the engagement and this is a great suggestion. Yeah I can do one on this in the near future for sure. Here is something that I found that I actually loved and learned from. Will do a summary of this with my additional thoughts (if I have any) in the next few issues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNSru7i7dus (I actually think I posted about this in an issue, ha)
Cool. I wondered if you'd already touched on this at some point in the past, but was too lazy to go through your stuff and check. The video was very informative, but still missing some important points of discussion. I'm finding many people talk at a high level about who might benefit from these types of shoes (elites vs slower runners for example). I'm not finding anyone doing a more nuanced discussion of what specific things are important to work on to prepare the body (legs/feet) for these shoes. For example, are people who are predominantly comprised of slowtwich fibers shit out of luck? How about the need for an elongated (as opposed to tight) posterior chain because the shoes tend to force front-mid foot striking. Does that result in an increased load on the soleus and gastroc or increased demand on hamstrings over time?
As I'm writing some of my questions, I realize they won't fit into a tasty nugget size section of a newsletter. So, I'm not expecting all the answers, but think there are others that may be interested in digging deeper into the specifics of "how" I can prepare myself to take advantage of supershoes.
Damn - just got this! Amazing stuff. Yeah, That's some proper journalism - sounds like we should do a collab on this as you research just as well as me and experiment on yourself.
I'll hit you up when I get around to outlining this and it could be a fun collab (if you're down).
Nice newsletter Daren!
